A Modern Educator: Learning, Adapting, and Inspiring
A modern educator is not only a specialist in their field, but also someone who continuously learns, experiments with new methods, adapts to change, and searches for the best ways to connect with students.
International education programs offer excellent opportunities to develop these skills, and we are proud that young teachers can take part in such programs through our accreditation project.
Diving into Universal Design for Learning
Recently, one of our young teachers, Elvira Bers, participated in an international training course focused on the principles of Universal Design for Learning (UDL).
This approach helps make learning more accessible and effective for all students. Over the course of five days, Elvira explored modern teaching methods, exchanged experiences with peers, and applied new knowledge in practice.
The training program covered:
An introduction to UDL principles and how to implement them in the classroom
Adapting learning materials to increase accessibility
Strategies for engaging and motivating students with diverse abilities and backgrounds
Using digital tools for more effective teaching
Designing individual and group projects
Key Lessons and Takeaways from the Training
Adapting lessons to every student
UDL emphasizes that students perceive and process information differently. Therefore, teachers should use a variety of teaching methods — including text, video, audio, and interactive elements.
Creating a safe learning environment
Many students experience anxiety due to fear of failure. One of UDL’s main goals is to allow students to learn at their own pace and in a way that works best for them.
Diversifying assessment methods
It’s not just about tests or exams. Teachers should offer multiple ways to assess learning: oral presentations, project work, essays, or even video presentations.
Using digital technologies
Today’s students are used to multimedia content. Interactive platforms, simulations, and digital learning tools help maintain attention and spark greater interest in learning.
Gradual implementation of new methods
After the course, Elvira asked, “How can I reorganize my entire teaching now?”
But the trainer reassured participants — you don’t need to change everything at once. Start small. Introduce new techniques step by step and test them in practice.
