Jūrmala: When Learning Helps Us Discover Our Own Potential

EN/RU
Our educational mobility in Jūrmala is continuing, and I would like to share what is particularly valuable to me as the project leader and organiser of the “Career Awareness 3.0” programme.

Every participant brings her own story, experience and questions. Some want to find a new professional direction, others are trying to make sense of their many ideas or learn to trust themselves more. Some have become so accustomed to managing everything on their own that they no longer notice how many opportunities lie beyond this habit.

Our programme combines the exploration of personal resources, career awareness, emotional resilience practices and group learning. During one of the training days, participants worked with their goals using metaphorical associative cards. They explored not only their desired outcomes but also the path towards them: which beliefs might be holding them back, what they can rely on, which external resources are available and what kind of support they can accept.

It was particularly interesting to observe how their perception of their own possibilities changed during the process. Participants began to recognise that they do not have to do everything alone, that behind a familiar fear there may be a specific question worth exploring, and that a chosen career direction does not necessarily have to remain unchanged simply because a great deal of effort has already been invested in it.

For one participant, an important discovery was that cooperation and delegation can become resources for personal development. Another experienced relief when she realised that her previous direction might not truly be her own. During group reflection, participants spoke about the importance of continuing to learn, understanding their starting point more clearly and paying closer attention to their own wishes.

The group itself is another valuable aspect of this mobility. When someone shares their experience, others may recognise something of themselves in that story. Different perspectives help broaden our understanding of the world, while support and trust create an environment in which even difficult questions become easier to explore.

And, of course, Jūrmala is much more than simply the location of our programme. A new environment, mindful walks and the opportunity to step away from familiar routines help participants continue exploring themselves beyond the training room.

It is important to me that the knowledge gained does not remain merely an impression from the mobility experience. That is why, throughout the programme, we connect personal discoveries with everyday life, small practical steps and continued independent development.

After all, the outcome of such a programme does not necessarily mean immediately changing jobs or making a major life decision. Sometimes it begins with a clearer understanding of what a person truly wants, which resources she already has and where she is ready to go next.

And I am very happy to see this clarity gradually emerging within our group.

This group learning mobility is carried out under the Erasmus+ accreditation in the field of adult education and is co-funded by the European Union.
